Sight Words (Fun Times)
I love the sets I have made for the learning the Sight Words. My children love them, last years group and this years group as well. What I love is that the children work on tracing, writing, coloring and they have to spell the word correctly. I keep them all in a binder and they will get the binder at the end of the year.
I introduce 5 words on Monday on the Microphone. Can I say I always wanted to do a little Broad Way! I catch the children's attention quickly. They repeat the second time I say the words on the Microphone. I have 3 groups in my classroom. On Tuesday one set of kids say the words on the Microphone. That is right you read correctly the children get to speak on the Microphone. OMG Can I say they love it! They look forward to saying it.On Wednesday the second group and Thursday the last group. On Friday we all say them and after I call them up for an oral test on these words.
During the week they work on one sheet per day of the 5 new sight words they are working on. This way they are practicing the words with me. I also have them write it for H.W. and I make a copy of the words for them to use as flash cards.
In October they will have the first test of all the Pre-Primer words. They will have 3 tries to past the test. If they get them most words correctly they receive a certificate with a special cone I buy from the dollar store.
